SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives immediate supervision from a Fire Captain.
JOB SUMMARY:
Participates in fire drills and learns all aspects of fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical support; responds to fire alarms with assigned firefighting personnel in a training capacity; and, assists in other firefighting activities as assigned including prevention, inspection, and equipment maintenance and repair.

Learns operations of the Fire Department through observation and participating in a wide variety of fire suppression, prevention, and support activities; serves in a training capacity while attending the Fire Academy. |

Participates in the fire drills; learns hands-on hose evolutions, pump operations, ladder operations, hydrant maintenance, air pack maintenance, and related tasks. |

Responds to fire alarms with assigned firefighting personnel; observes and assists, as appropriate, in fire response activities, including connecting and laying hose operating nozzles, and lowering and adjusting ladders. |

Learns to apply firefighting techniques and procedures. |

Learns to administer first aid as necessary. |

Assists in overhauling, salvage, and cleanup operations. |

Learns to operate motor driven equipment and related apparatus. |

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE, AND HARDWARE:
Fire apparatus, fire equipment, tools, and devices. Computers, printers, scanner, copy / fax machine, and related software, telephone etc.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Personal Protective Equipment provided by the Peoria Fire-Medical Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: None required.
Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements:
If selected, a candidate must provide the following prior to the initial interview:
· Valid AZ State or National Registry EMT certificate.
· Valid driver's license.
· Must posses a current Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) within the last year (January 1, 2024 - March 7, 2025), will be waived if you can show proof of current employment with a fire department.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties. Must be able to obtain a Firefighter I & II Certificate through the academy.
PREFERRED/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION(s):
National Registry or State of Arizona Paramedic certification, Firefighter I & II certificates, Arizona Hazardous Materials First Responder certificate. Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of modern firefighting; fire apparatus, equipment, tools, devices, facilities, and their proper use and maintenance requirements.
