Firefighter Recruit and Certified (Midland, TX 79701)
Responds to all emergency and non-emergency calls for service including, but not limited to: fire, hazardous materials, and medical services.
Fire Personnel hired with current Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certification and are currently in Fire Protection service may be credited with continuous years of service from commission date activation and placed on Step Progression accordingly.
Cleans apparatus and equipment. Cleans the station. Attends and completes all training as required.
Performs all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hoses, carrying and setting up ladders, directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicles and other objects.
Ventilates buildings and conducts salvage operations.
Rescues persons trapped in cars, burning buildings and other places. Responds to emergency medical situations. Administers medications. Makes inspections for electrical equipment. Responds to gas leaks.
Performs other duties as required.
Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to attend functions and meetings in buildings and at other sites. Must be able to fight fires and perform strenuous physical tasks. Employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, communicable diseases and hazardous fumes and chemicals while engaged in firefighting or other rescue activities.

Employees hired in this classification are required to hold a current, valid certification of Structural Firefighter-Basic from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and certification of EMT-Basic from the Texas Department of State Health Services, as well as perform all assigned duties.
• Attends and successfully completes all training, within the time frame allowed, related to firefighting certification including, but not limited to, connecting and carrying firehoses, carrying and setting up ladders, directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicles and other objects, structural ventilation and salvage operations.
• Attends and successfully completes all training, within the time frame allowed, related to emergency medical services certification including, but not limited to, patient assessment, oxygen administration, spinal immobilization, bleeding control, and splinting.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Texas driver's license required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - FIRE RECRUIT
• Be between the ages of 18 and 35, having not met the 36th birthday at the time of appointment.
• A valid Texas issued driver's license must be obtained prior to appointment.
• Successfully complete all entrance testing processes including, but not limited to, written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, medical physical and background checks.
• No felonies or extensive criminal background
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
• Current, Valid TDSHS EMT or Paramedic Certification (National Registry is accepted)
Ability to effectively communicate with citizens and all levels of employees in order to provide information
regarding fire and emergency medical functions and responsibilities.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Ability to read and review such items as textbooks, professional journals, and publications. Must be able to compute formulas for determining water pressure and drug dosages. Ability to write such items as reports and memos. Ability to learn new concepts and learn independently of direct instruction.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Be between the ages of 18 and 35, having not met the 36th birthday at the time of appointment.
• A valid Texas issued driver's license must be obtained prior to appointment. (Must obtain a Texas Class B Driver’s License within 6 Months of Appointment)
• Must possess current, valid certifications in both Basic Structural Fire from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and EMT-Basic from the Texas Department of State Health Services (National Registry is accepted). Complete all entrance testing processes including, but not limited to, written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, medical physical, and background checks.
The pay range listed is based on years of experience with other paid position fire departments.
