Job Summary
Red Wing Fire Department is seeking to fill the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.
The Position: Performs emergency work in the protection of life and property from fire and other hazards, the operation
of Fire Department and ambulance vehicles, the delivery of advanced life support, and the treatment of emergency
medical problems and emergency rescue.
The current position would be hired as a flex role where the typical schedule would be M-F, 40 hour work week. But
when there is an open shift position this individual would then move to our standard 48/96 Shift Schedule.
We do have a 60 Minute Residency Requirement.

psychological assessment and medical exams.
Job Functions
· Respond to 911 medical response and inter-facility transports.
· Drive ambulance or act as attendant while responding to routine and emergency situations involving sick or injured
· individuals; provide medical assistance within the scope of practice as an Emergency Medical Technician-
· Paramedic.
· Provide medical assistance within the scope of practice as a Paramedic; assess the nature and extent of illness or
· injury and establishes priority for emergency care Observe patient in route and administer care according to
· medical guidelines; identify diagnostic signs that require communication with the physician or emergency
· department; perform advanced airway procedures using equipment according to medical guidelines; administer
· medications according to guidelines.
· Respond to fire or other emergencies as required; fire suppression, technical rescues, motor vehicle accidents.
· Replace supplies and decontaminates the interior of the ambulance
· Complete ambulance report and send to state/billing company on each call.
· Ventilate burning buildings.
· Participate in initial arson investigations.
· Assist in salvage work after a fire has been extinguished.
· Participate in pre-fire and post fire sessions with officers and other firefighters.
· Perform a variety of administrative duties at the fire station.
· Perform routine station duties as directed to maintain the cleanliness, readiness, and appearance of apparatus,
· equipment, station and grounds.
· Maintain fire service records as requested or required by department policy.
· Assist with fire prevention and education including speaking at schools, conducting tours of the fire station, taking
· blood pressures and attending health and home improvement fairs.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
· Firefighting and emergency medicine.
· Emergency medicine at the EMT P level.
· Tools and maintenance of equipment used for various jobs.
· Computerized systems, Microsoft Office applications, and proficiency in spreadsheets.
· Safety rules and regulations to be used with hazards.
· Thorough understanding of City’s functions, policies, and procedures.

Experience, Education, Certifications, Physical Requirements
Experience Required: Previous Fire Service experience is preferred.
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of formal training beyond
High School.
Certification: Valid MN Class D driver's license or equivalent. Fire Fighter II- certified by Minnesota Fire Service
Certification Board, Hazardous Materials Operations (MN, IFSAC, and/or ProBoard); National Registry EMT-P.
Certifications for consideration will include the following:
1. Firefighter and Paramedic
2. Firefighter and EMT
3. Paramedic only
Firefighter EMT or Paramedic only certifications will be placed at Grade 10, Step 1 which is $37.28/hr and will serve a
one year probationary period. After successful completion of the probationary period the individual moves to Step 2 and
progresses annually until they obtain the Paramedic Certification, once the Paramedic Certification is obtained the
individual moves up to Pay Grade 11.
Fully Certified Firefighter/Paramedics will be placed at Grade 11, Step 1 which is $40.27/hr. Lateral pay may be
considered based upon experience.
