ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for Fire Fighter Paramedic I (Lateral Orientation

Academy). This is a training position in the Fire Fighter class, not to exceed 20 weeks. The academy will consist of both

formal classroom and practical training for varied firefighting and life rescuing duties and activities in the protection of life

and property. Includes formal instruction and training in the skills and techniques of firefighting, equipment operation,

routine care and maintenance of firefighting equipment, apparatus, fire department buildings and grounds, and EMS skills

and operations.

Applicants must possess the documented ability to perform the job function as a Firefighter and a Paramedic. A Paramedic

certificate is required for this position and it must be attached to the application. If you have obtained an IFSAC NFPA

Firefighter I or II certificate, please attach the certificate(s) to the application. These documents must be uploaded with the

Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County within 90 days of

employment. Employees hired after January 1, 2009, will be required to provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor

vehicle registration and driver's license laws (Ordinance No. 3881).

This examination will establish an Open Competitive list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next

twelve (12) months.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

(It is not to be assumed that each example listed shall be performed by all employees, nor that any one employee shall

perform only the examples listed.) Performs various firefighting activity initially working under the direct supervision of a Fire

Fighter and attends classroom instruction on the techniques of fire fighting, equipment operation and maintenance and fire

inspection and prevention. As required, responds to fire situations; lays and connects fire hoses; holds nozzles and directs

fog or water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguisher, power driven tools, bars, hooks, and lines.

Assists firefighters in providing for ventilation of burning structures, removing people from danger, and performing salvage

duties. Accompanies other fire personnel in the performance of periodic inspection and fire prevention duties; inspects and

performs minor repairs to hydrants, firefighting equipment and apparatus. May provide first aid to injured people. May

participate in County-wide prevention programs by giving talks and showing films at schools and various group meetings.

Inspects and monitors hazardous material sites. Participates in fire drills and attends regular classes in firefighting, fire

prevention, equipment maintenance and related subjects. Performs similar and related duties as required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physically and mentally fit to perform vigorous basic skill requirements. Height in proportion to weight. Vision must be

correctable and within the guidelines specified in order to hold a current Nevada Driver's License.

Qualifications


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of entrance requirements. Paramedics must have

a license or certification through specialized course work in advanced pre-hospital emergency medicine. Training

should be from a recognized agency that uses the Department of Transportation EMS curricula as a minimum scope of

education. An applicant shall be currently certified or licensed as a Paramedic in the State of Nevada, another State or

US territory or possess a current National Registry Certification as a Paramedic.

All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience”

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination to include a pulmonary test,

performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

License: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada driver's license.

Background Check: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.

Note: It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not

use tobacco in any form.
