T HE POSITION
The City of Goodyear is currently recruiting for the position of Recruit Firefighter. The Recruit Firefighter will attend a regional fire academy to learn and be tested on the general duty of Firefighter work. Recruit Firefighters will receive training in firefighting methods, emergency medical service, fire code enforcement and prevention practices, salvage operations, public relations, physical fitness and associated topics to prepare for appointment as a Firefighter. After successful completion of a regional fire academy, employees are promoted to the class of Firefighter.

Requirements:
This position requires the following minimum requirements:
- 18 years of age at the time of application
- Valid Driver's License
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Arizona State Certified Emergency Medical Care Technician (EMCT) or Paramedic
- If from out of state, must have an active National Registered Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic Certification and obtain AZ EMCT or Paramedic Certification through the reciprocity process before official hire date or applicant will be disqualified (must upload proof of active NREMT cert with application)
- CPAT within the last year (April 3, 2024 – April 3, 2025)
- If you are currently employed as a full-time firefighter for a Phoenix Automatic-Aid consortium fire department, and you attended a regionally accredited training academy, you do not need a CPAT test
- Public Safety Answers test and video interview (done through Public Safety Answers) as part of this process
Public Safety Answers Requirements- The Goodyear Fire Department will be utilizing the Public Safety Answers for the written portion of the exam and virtual interview.

Examination Process Examination process for this position will include: a written exam and virtual interview with Public Safety Answers, practical evaluation, in-person interview, background check, psychological and medical examination.
Hiring Process
- Prior to April 24, 2025 @ 1700 you must complete the following:
- Complete the application with the City of Goodyear and
- Complete the application with Public Safety Answers and
- Complete the test with Public Safety Answers and
- Record Video Interviews with Public Safety Answers
- Your interview will be reviewed. Successful applicants will be notified to participate in a Recruit Firefighter Assessment. This consists of:
- Orientation on May 16, 2025, from 1700-2100.
- A full day of hands on assessment on either May 17th or 18th, 2025
- Applicant must participate in this assessment
- Candidates moving on will be scheduled for a final Fire Chief Interview
- Scheduled for June 2-5, 2025
