Firefighter (Cottonwood, AZ 86326)
DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision of the Company Officer, responds to emergency calls for
assistance from the public and participates in fire suppression, emergency medial treatment, rescue,
hazardous material incident mitigation and special operations; and performs related duties as assigned.
CLASSIFICATION: This is a non-exempt, full-time, classified position with full benefits.

TASKS: Responds to emergency calls for assistance from the public and participates in fire suppression,
emergency medical treatment, rescue, hazardous materials incident mitigation and special operations.
Assists with fire prevention inspections, pre-emergency planning and public education activities.
Participates in non-emergency duties during an assigned shift. Non-emergency duties may include
vehicle maintenance to ensure all apparatus are in working order for any emergency, preventive
maintenance on equipment in accordance with department standards, maintaining cleanliness of
apparatus and equipment. Assists with the scheduled maintenance and testing of fire pumps, hoses,
ladders, hand and power tools, and various other related pieces of equipment.
Maintains the fire station by performing minor repairs and daily cleaning of the station. Assists in
maintaining equipment inventory.
Participates in job related training. Maintains physical fitness to department standards and participates in
annual physical fitness assessment. Assists Fire Officers and Engineers in various activities related to
meeting Fire Department goals and objectives. Performs duties of an apparatus driver/operator or
Engineer as assigned.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency response operations
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of fire apparatus and equipment
Knowledge of standard operating procedures in the Fire Department

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work involved in this classification includes exposure to major hazards
during the suppression and prevention of fires, mitigation of hazardous materials, emergency
medical/rescue and disaster response. Must pass medical physical by Fire Department annually. Must possess a current, valid CPAT certification issued by National Testing Network (NTN) or
another licensed CPAT provider. CPAT certification must be completed within the past six (6) months of
offer acceptance date.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. Requires valid Arizona State FF
II certification (or valid IFSAC FF II or Pro Board FF II certification) and current Arizona EMT certification.
Also requires Hazardous Materials First Responder certification (meeting OSHA 1910.120 requirements).
Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s license. Employees who are new to the Fire Department agree
they will have no outside employment during their 12-month orientation period without Fire Chief or City Manager approval.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s degree from an accredited community college, college,
or university. Current Arizona Paramedic certification. Fire apparatus operation training and experience.
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
