Introduction:

 

Incumbent performs duties to prevent, combat and extinguish fires.  Responds to emergency medical calls and provides a standard of care to the level of his/her training.  Responds to other emergencies and performs rescue and incident stabilization measures in accordance with department guidelines.  Incumbent continually strives to reflect the professionalism and accomplish the mission of the Hobart Fire Department.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Responds to the alarms by reporting to assigned vehicle, riding in or on assigned vehicle, to the scene of the emergency or fire.  Lift, carry, drag, lay, and connect hose lines from hydrants and equipment to scene.  Carry resuscitators, tools and other equipment from vehicle to scene.  Raise and climb ladders, crawl and walk on roofs and floors, open holes and windows with axes, bars or hooks for access or ventilation.  Combat fire area, including going into confined spaces and climbing stairs.

 

Communicate by voice or radio with other firefighters and other emergency personnel to relay observations, equipment needs and other relevant information.  Move people away from danger including carrying unconscious people.  Provide emergency medical treatment to injured people.  Remove objects from buildings, place protective covers over objects and monitor assigned areas for signs of reoccurrence.

 

Conduct fire drills, critique drill participants on emergency procedure and instruct groups on such procedures.  Participate in training on firefighting, emergency aid, emergency procedures and related subjects.  Maintain departmental equipment and structures which includes cleaning and washing walls and floors, hanging and drying fire hose, cleaning equipment and performing preventative maintenance on motorized equipment.  Maintain personal physical fitness.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

Training Rules and Requirements:

 

Participates in all assigned training activities as directed by the training officer.

 

Control Over Position:

 

Directly supervised by the Lieutenant or Captain in charge.



This position is Full Time with benefits, paid in accordance with the Current Salary Ordinance of The City of Hobart and governed by the policies in the Employee Handbook. This job description is not intended to be all inclusive.  A Firefighter may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

Indiana Firefighter I/II Certification

 

Indiana EMT-B or Paramedic Certification

Must be between 18 and 39 years of age

High School Diploma or equivalent

Must have a valid Indiana CPAT testing must be completed by August 8th to be considered for hiring. (Not required for Lateral hires, but Physical Agility Test may be required)



Bonus Points:
10% military, 8% paramedic, 5% INPRS lateral.
